5 ways you can get involved during Breast Cancer Awareness month

Did you know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month? This month is a great way to help fight against this disease, and while there are many ways to get involved, each one can make a difference. Here at Live Elemental, we pride ourselves on the fact that we donate 1% of our orders to Bright Pink. You can get involved too, by volunteering, donating money to research organizations, participating in local events, showing your support through wearing a pink ribbon, or simply spreading the word to your friends and family. Every little bit helps!

The facts on breast cancer

Breast cancer is a type of cancer that forms in the breast tissue. It can be either invasive (spreading to other parts of the body) or non-invasive (remaining in the breast). On average, every 2 minutes a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer in the United States. If that doesn’t shock you, in 2022, an estimated 287,500 new cases of invasive breast cancer will be diagnosed in women in the U.S. as well as 51,400 new cases of non-invasive breast cancer.

Although breast cancer is more common in women, it is important to be aware that men can also develop the disease. In men, an estimated 2,710 new cases of breast cancer will be diagnosed and approximately 530 men will die from breast cancer.

Early detection is key to successful treatment, so it is important to be familiar with the signs and symptoms of breast cancer. If you notice any changes in your breast tissue, please see a doctor as soon as possible.

Volunteering

Breast cancer charities are always in need of volunteers to help with a variety of tasks, from raising awareness to providing support to those affected.

There are many ways you can volunteer your time to support breast cancer charities. You can participate in fundraising events, such as walkathons or bake sales. You can also offer your time to provide support to those affected by breast cancer, either by serving as a mentor or providing transportation to appointments.

If you're interested in volunteering your time to support breast cancer charities, there are many ways to get involved. Contact your local charity to see what opportunities are available, or search for volunteer opportunities online.

Donate to research organizations

When it comes to supporting breast cancer research organizations, every little bit counts. Whether you’re donating your money or resources, your support is crucial in the fight.

There are a number of breast cancer research organizations out there doing vital work to find a cure for this disease.

Your donations help breast cancer research organizations to:

  • Conduct vital research into the causes and treatments for breast cancer
  • Provide support and information for those affected by breast cancer
  • Raise awareness of breast cancer and promote early detection
  • Work towards a future where breast cancer is no longer a life-threatening disease

As part of our Give Back program, every month at Live Elemental, we donate 1% of all orders to various charities, including a breast cancer organization named Bright Pink. They provide support to initiatives which aid in educating women on the risks of breast cancer and how to prevent them, and help design plans for at-risk women. We believe that supporting these organizations is a necessity in improving our future and the health of our families.

So, next time you buy an Elemental product, you can know that you’re doing your part in helping this important cause.

Create or participate in a fundraiser

If you don’t have the funds available, or you’d like to donate more to an organization, fundraisers are the best way to get involved. Small or large scale, they also provide a way for people to come together and support a worthy cause. By raising money for breast cancer awareness, you can help make a difference in the lives of those affected by this disease.

There are many ways to go about setting up a fundraiser. You can host a bake sale, car wash, or silent auction. You can also create an online fundraiser or participate in one that is already established. However, if you don’t have the time or the resources to create a fundraiser yourself, don’t worry, you can always participate in a local fundraiser, such as a marathon or a fundraising concert. No matter how you choose to fundraise, remember that every little bit helps!

Breast cancer awareness is an important cause, and fundraisers are a great way to support it. If you are thinking about setting up, or getting involved in a fundraiser, go for it! You could make a difference in the fight against breast cancer.

Learn the signs and help educate others

To check for signs of breast cancer, you should perform a self-exam of your breasts at least once a month. During the exam, you should look for any changes in the appearance of your breasts, such as unusual lumps or bumps, dimpling of the skin, or changes in the size or shape of the breasts. Of course, these aren’t all the symptoms, so please visit this CDC website to find out more. If you notice any changes, please see a doctor as soon as possible.

In addition to performing self-exams, you should also get regular mammograms. A mammogram is an X-ray of the breasts that can help to detect breast cancer in its early stages. The American Cancer Society recommends that women over the age of 40 get a mammogram every year.

If you’re concerned about breast cancer, it’s important to talk to your doctor. They can provide you with more information on self-exams and mammograms, as well as answer any other questions you may have.

Wear pink

During Breast Cancer Awareness Month, people often wear pink to show their support for those affected by the disease. Wearing pink ribbons or other items of clothing in this color is a way of creating attention and uniformity among supporters. For many people, it is also a way of honoring breast cancer survivors.

The pink ribbon has become an international symbol of support for breast cancer patients and their families. It is often worn during events such as marches, races, and walks that raise money for research and treatment. Some people also choose to get tattoos of pink ribbons as a way of supporting the cause.

So if you’d like to show your support, but you maybe can’t afford a donation, or you simply want to do something to raise awareness, then wearing pink is the way to go!
