Why Water Bottles Are Made of Stainless Steel

Water is an essential part of life. Unlike your morning cup of coffee, we literally can't live without. It is one of the most vital element that makes up our entire existence.

We're often told how important it is to drink water and how we need to drink at least half our body weight in ounces each day. But these days it can be difficult to remind ourselves or to even find a good clean source of water while out and about. But thankfully, the evolution of the water bottle has come a long way: from the animal horn or clay pot water storage varieties to the common plastic water bottle.

The first-ever known use of a “water bottle” was in 5000 B.C. where clay bottles were formed to store water. One of the top-selling water bottle designs today is the stainless steel reusable water bottle. But why choose stainless steel over plastic or glass?

Your different water bottle choices

Choosing the right water bottle can be difficult. You want to make sure it helps you stay hydrated, but also doesn't lead to unintended side effects.

Aluminum water bottles

If you don't do your research you might end up with a reusable bottle made out of aluminum, which has been linked to Alzheimer’s. Most aluminum bottle producers use a plastic lining which is the main culprit in leading to health issues.

This lining is used to prevent the leaching of the metal into your water source, but it is that exact lining that separates the aluminum from stainless steel bottles.

Plastic water bottles

If you decide on purchasing a plastic water bottle you run the risk of your bottle containing BPA. And if you find one that is BPA free the bottle may also contain phthalates, which is another harmful chemical also found in plastic water bottles.

These chemicals don't only change the flavor of the water, but have been linked to cancer and other health problems. The longer your drink sits in the plastic water bottle, combined with the heat of being outdoors in even in your car can increase the chances of these chemicals leaching into your hydration source.

Glass water bottles

There is another type of bottle that is clear of harmful chemicals and raises little to no concern related to health issues and that is glass bottles. Glass bottles have been used for many years for a variety of products.

They're often looked at as an eco-friendly bottle that seems to be a good choice. But they have their own downfalls.

Just like any glass item, it can easily break even when covered with a protective sleeve.

Another downside is that they do not keep your water cold. If left in the car, that bottle will even be too hot to pick up.

What to look for in a water bottle

When looking for a bottle there are several key attributes to look for: durability, insulation, material, and how much water can it hold.

Choose a bottle that can keep your water cold for at least 24 hours. Nothing's worse than reaching for your water bottle after a long hike only to take a drink of warm water.

Why you should choose a stainless steel water bottle

There are numerous types of water bottles to choose from. The longest lasting, safest, and most durable option is a stainless steel water bottle.

A reusable stainless steel water bottle can save you hundreds of dollars each year.
